We just returned from flying round trip on Jet Blue from New York to Charlotte, North Carolina with my child who is peanut and tree nut allergic. Jet Blue put his allergies into the reservation notes and told me to speak to the staff when I got to the gate. I can’t say enough about how accommodating they were to us. They let us preboard so I had ample time to wipe everything down and they announced that there was a child on the plane allergic to peanuts and tree nuts so they were not going to serve any with their snacks. They also requested that all other passengers refrain from opening any nuts on the plane. During the flight the air steward came over to make sure everything was okay. We only fly Jet Blue for this reason.

I agree, but was told last time (6 months ago) I flew that they were not sure how long they would be enforcing no nuts on board policy. Apparently, some parents were very upset that they could not give their children peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that they had packed for lunch. I hope Jet Blue stays as accomadating as they’ve been to their food allergy passengers. They are the only airline we fly with our child as well.

We have peanut and tree nut allergies in our family and have always flown JetBlue due to their policy. We have always raved about the airline. However, we flew this weekend (4/1/10-4/4/10), and their policy has changed. They now only offer a one row buffer and offered cashews and almonds onboard. They refused to not serve them even though we booked our ticket when the old policy was in place. They refused to break policy. I wanted to alert you of their new policy which is on their website. They were not pleasant to deal with. We will never fly the airline again despite our past loyalty.

what a shame! Thanks for the heads up, my family and I are trying to book a flight to Disney with a life threatening peanut/tree nut allergic child so this information is very appreciated!

We flew jet blue buffalo to orlando & back at the end of june/early july 2010. we experienced both situations. on the flight there they only offered a buffer zone. on the way back they made an announcement, didn’t serve any nuts on the plane & asked all patrons to refrain from eating them. They even had blueberry craisins for my son to eat -the package says peanut free facility! However, when i booked my tickets, they didnt serve nuts on the plane & they never informed me of the policy change. i was disappointed. The counter staff in the orlando airport was rather disinterested when i tried to inform them of the allergy, several times.
